Ljubljana Marathon 2026 at a glance

The NLB 30th Ljubljana Marathon takes place on Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18, 2026. The Garmin 10 km is held on Saturday afternoon, while the marathon and half marathon start together on Sunday morning. The start, finish and main runner service area are close together in central Ljubljana, but road closures and changed public transport routes still require an early arrival plan.

1. Quick facts for Ljubljana Marathon 2026

Event dates

Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18, 2026.

Location

Ljubljana, Slovenia, with the main event area in the city centre.

The marathon and half marathon begin on Slovenska cesta near Ajdovščina and finish at Kongresni trg. The runner service area, including baggage facilities, is centred on Trg republike. Save all three locations rather than treating “Ljubljana city centre” as one meeting point.

Visit the official NLB Ljubljana Marathon website for current notices, route changes and participant instructions.

2. Choose your Ljubljana Marathon distance

All three principal races use the central event area, but they do not take place at the same time. Confirm the correct day, start zone, time limit and bib instructions for your distance before arranging transport or a meeting.

3. Ljubljana Marathon 2026 weekend schedule

The published programme begins with EXPO and bib collection on Thursday. Saturday combines school and community events with the 10 km race, while Sunday is reserved for the marathon and half marathon.

Thursday, October 15

  • 09:00–19:00: EXPO and event pack collection at GR Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre.

Friday, October 16

  • 09:00–19:00: EXPO and event pack collection.

Saturday, October 17

  • 09:00–21:00: EXPO and event pack collection.
  • Morning and early afternoon: children’s, inclusive and school runs.
  • 16:30: Garmin 10 km start.

Sunday, October 18

  • 09:00: marathon and half marathon start.
  • Finish and post-race services operate around Kongresni trg and Trg republike according to the organizer’s final instructions.

Check the official event schedule again during race week because operational details may change.

4. Collect your bib before race day

Event packs are collected at EXPO NLB Ljubljana Marathon inside the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre, GR Ljubljana, Dunajska cesta 18. The organizer requires a valid identification document and the collection voucher, shown either as a printed copy or QR code on a phone.

  • Save the collection voucher offline and bring valid identification.
  • Use Thursday or Friday if you want to avoid combining collection with Saturday’s city-centre events.
  • Check the organizer’s special Saturday deadline if purchasing a 10 km start package.
  • Confirm any rules before attempting to collect a pack for somebody else.
  • Complete the emergency information requested on the back of the bib.
  • Keep the bib visible on the front of your clothing during the race.

See the organizer’s current bib collection instructions.

5. Plan transport into central Ljubljana

The start, finish and service area are within roughly 500 metres of one another, and the central event zone is designed to be approached on foot. That compact layout is useful once you arrive, but it also means nearby roads, parking and bus routes can be affected by the event.

Train or intercity bus

Ljubljana’s railway and main bus stations are within about one kilometre of the event area. Check weekend timetables and allow extra walking time.

City bus

Some LPP routes may be shortened or diverted during the weekend. Use live LPP information rather than relying on a normal weekday route.

Driving

Central parking can fill quickly and road closures may affect familiar approaches. The organizer recommends considering P+R facilities outside the centre.

Walking or cycling

These can simplify the final city-centre segment. Confirm where bicycles may be left without entering controlled runner areas.

If several people are travelling together, agree where the shared part of the trip ends. A P+R site, accommodation or station is usually clearer than an undefined “meet near the start” plan. Use the Lumopa guide to sharing a ride to a running race to confirm departure time, equipment space, direct costs and a backup.

6. Choose accommodation around your real schedule

Staying in or near the centre can reduce race-morning uncertainty, but the best location depends on how you arrive, when you collect your bib and how you leave after the race. Map the accommodation to Slovenska cesta, Kongresni trg, Trg republike and the EXPO—not only to a generic city-centre marker.

  • Check walking time to the correct start-zone entrance.
  • Confirm breakfast or food preparation before an early departure.
  • Ask about late arrival if you travel after work on Friday.
  • Check luggage storage and post-race access before booking.
  • Confirm parking access separately from ordinary hotel parking information.
  • Keep a route that does not depend on one disrupted city bus.

The organizer links to general visitor information for accommodation and travel. Treat any commercial booking as your own decision and verify cancellation conditions directly.

7. Build a race-morning plan

For Sunday’s marathon and half marathon, the organizer recommends lining up at least 45 minutes before the 09:00 start. Start zones run along Slovenska cesta and access closes progressively according to the assigned zone, so “arrive at nine” is not a workable plan.

  • Check the start-zone letter printed on your bib.
  • Map the correct entrance to that zone before leaving accommodation.
  • Work backward from the zone closing time, not only the race start.
  • Allow time for toilets, baggage drop and a final clothing decision.
  • Use only the organizer-issued bag and label system where required.
  • Agree on a precise post-finish meeting point outside the busiest flow.

Baggage drop is published for a marked tent on Trg republike. The organizer requires the bib coupon to identify the bag, and collection after the race requires the bib. Do not place valuables in stored luggage.

Read the organizer’s current start times and limits, start-zone instructions and baggage information.

8. Plan the finish and journey home

The finish is at Kongresni trg, with runner services nearby at Trg republike. Crowds, closed streets and tired legs can make even a short distance feel complicated. Decide in advance whether you will meet someone, return to accommodation or travel directly to a station or parked vehicle.

  • Choose a named post-race meeting point away from the finish exit.
  • Share an estimated time range rather than one exact finish time.
  • Keep warm, dry clothing accessible after collecting your bag.
  • Check changed bus routes before starting the return journey.
  • Leave recovery time before driving a long distance.
  • Keep an independent route home if a shared plan changes.

If you are attending alone, use the practical guide to going to a race alone. If you would like to connect before the weekend, read how to find people going to the same race without assuming that somebody will be available.
