PREPARING FOR OCR

Prepare for more than running.

Spartan racing combines endurance, strength, grip, coordination and obstacle technique.

Running fitness

Train on uneven and technical terrain rather than relying only on flat-road running.

Grip strength

Prepare for carries, hanging obstacles, monkey bars and rope-based challenges.

Water confidence

The Hvar course may include swimming and water-based obstacle sections.

Race equipment

Use footwear suitable for wet surfaces, rock, trails and changing terrain.

GETTING TO HVAR

Plan the mainland and island journey together.

Hvar is an island destination, so race-week travel usually requires coordination between road, air and ferry connections.

By air

Split Airport is the most practical airport for many international visitors travelling onward to Hvar.

Via Split

Split is the main transport hub for reaching Hvar by passenger catamaran or vehicle ferry.

By vehicle ferry

Drivers generally use a vehicle-ferry connection to Stari Grad before continuing across the island.

By shared ride

Shared transport is especially useful for coordinating travel to Split, ferry times, equipment and the final transfer to Hvar town.

ISLAND TRAVEL

Choose the right ferry connection.

Passenger and vehicle connections serve different ports, so confirm the route that matches your accommodation and transport plan.

Hvar town

Passenger catamarans can provide direct access to Hvar town, depending on the seasonal timetable.

Stari Grad

Stari Grad is the principal vehicle-ferry port on the island and requires onward road transport to Hvar town.

Book early

October schedules and vehicle capacity can differ from peak summer operations, so check current timetables before travelling.

WHERE TO STAY

Accommodation in and around Hvar town.

Staying close to the event area can simplify race registration, early starts, equipment transport and post-race recovery.

  • Reserve accommodation early for race weekend
  • Check the distance from the event village and course
  • Confirm transport from Stari Grad ferry port
  • Ask about storage for wet and muddy race equipment
  • Review late-arrival and cancellation conditions

RACE-WEEK LOGISTICS

Coordinate your arrival and equipment.

Island travel adds an extra logistics layer, particularly for racers arriving with friends, children or larger amounts of equipment.

Registration and start times

Check your race-specific arrival, registration and start-wave instructions before leaving the mainland.

Ferry buffer

Leave additional time for traffic, port access, boarding and the onward journey across Hvar.

Equipment transport

Keep dry clothing, footwear and recovery items organized separately from wet race equipment.

Supporters and families

Confirm spectator access, road restrictions and meeting points before race day.
